About the Speaker

With over 15 years of experience in data journalism and visual storytelling, Amr Elaraby is a pioneer in integrating data science into journalism. He is the founder of InfoTimes, an award-winning platform recognized by the Global Editors Network as the Best Data Journalism Team in the small newsroom category. He is currently a lecturer at Toronto Metropolitan University in Canada. Previously, he served as the Vice President for Community Engagement at the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) under the Egyptian Cabinet, where he led the development and implementation of data-driven projects and initiatives to support decision-makers. Elaraby has also taught at the American University in Cairo (AUC), where he delivered the course "Data for Media." He is the author of several books, including Python for Journalists and Essentials of Data Journalism, and has worked as a consultant for various international organizations such as the World Bank, UN Women, and UNDP. Throughout his career, he has trained thousands of journalists across the Middle East and North Africa in collaboration with leading organizations such as BBC Media Action, Internews Europe, DW Academy, and Free Press Unlimited.
